About Teletherapy

Teletherapy

Online therapy, or teletherapy, refers to psychotherapy or counseling services conducted over the internet. In contrast to in-person therapy, online therapy allows you to connect with a licensed therapist or counselor using any device that has an internet connection, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

A growing number of people are opting for teletherapy to meet their mental health care needs. Online therapy, unlike traditional therapy, enables an individual to meet with their therapist from nearly anywhere in the world, so long as they have a stable and secure internet.

Research shows that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for various mental health conditions. Data also suggests that retention rates are higher due to the added convenience of attending appointments from almost anywhere.

These are some potential benefits for teletherapy:

Teletherapy is accessible.

Mental health care is not always readily available to people in remote or rural areas. People who are unable to leave their home for various reasons, such as physical or mental illness, may find online therapy a useful alternative to traditional in-person psychotherapy settings. Thanks to technology, you do not need to be in the same room with your counselor to get the same care.

Teletherapy is more convenient.

Many people live busy lives and making time for a counseling appointment can be difficult. Teletherapy eliminates the need for traveling for face-to-face meetings. It is much easier to fit a counseling session into your day when you do not have to worry about getting to the office.

Teletherapy may feel more comfortable.

Counseling can be intimidating. You may have avoided it in the past because you get nervous at the thought of being vulnerable in an unfamiliar place. If you dislike the traditional therapy set-up, you may benefit from the comfort of teletherapy. You can have your session wherever you feel most comfortable — your office, bedroom, or couch.

Teletherapy can be a good fit for people who have difficulty accessing mental health services. People who are new to therapy may find it easy to participate in teletherapy sessions. The fact that treatment takes place where clients feel most comfortable may also reduce the stigma associated with receiving mental health services.

While online therapy can potentially be very helpful for people in certain situations, it may not be a good fit for everyone. Whether or not online therapy may be appropriate for you depends on your condition and the severity of your symptoms. This is why I offer a free consultation to help you determine if teletherapy is the right treatment option for you.

As a therapist, I have enjoyed being able to offer teletherapy over the last few years. This modern approach to therapy aligns with my belief that the mental health field needs to keep evolving to best meet the needs of our clients. When I decided to start my own practice, choosing to exclusively offer teletherapy just made sense. It allows me to reduce my overhead, which translate to more affordable rates for clients. I have the ability to reach more clients due to improved access. And I enjoy working from the comfort of my home, just like many of you do.
